Excessive Sweating – Too Much of a Good Thing
Excessive perspiration, also known as hyperhidrosis, can be a real pain and cause for self-consciousness but it is not usually much cause for concern health wise.
Bouts of profuse sweating can be brought on by more than just strenuous exercise. Things like hot beverages, alcohol, certain spicy foods, high temperatures, and other factors can contribute to excessive sweating. Knowing what causes it to get worse and modifying contributing factors can help. Staying hydrated is very important, so you want to remember to drink plenty of water.
In the case of hyperhidrosis however, sweating can occur when the affected person is neither exercising, nor under any type of stress. Sweating can happen at any time without warning.
It is also important that you ascertain that the sweating is not the result of an underlying medical condition. If your sweat has a strange odor, or smells like ammonia, or if you have a fever, pains, rapid heart beat, or any other unusual symptom, then you should consult with your doctor immediately.
With this condition, if you do not practice good hygiene, sweat can buildup, increasing bacteria, and may result in more odor and the possibility of infections.
Sweating is a natural and necessary part of every person’s bodily function and there is no reason to be embarrassed if you happen to sweat more than others. Stressing out over it will only make matters worse. Just remember to keep hydrated for your health and make adjustments to your diet and stress levels to keep it in check.
